I saw an exhibition of the Terracotta Army recently, and was reminded of a story a couple of years ago about a student who had dressed up to look like one of the warriors and hidden himself in the pit where the army stands.

Image Seen close up, the warriors are incredibly detailed and lifelike. They seem ready to spring into action at any moment, and I couldn't help smiling at the idea that these 'guards' might come to life to protect the emperor.

It would be a great scene in a movie! Imagine hundreds, or thousands, or martial artists from ancient China coming to life and kicking the bejeezus out of the designated bad guys......

What was interesting about the exhibition I saw was a reference to the existence of other, smaller, tombs with similar figures guarding them. It is perfectly possible that other armies exist at various other sites in China which were home to the kings of various states before being annexed by the Qin Emperor.

So, here's an idea for a movie: You have the secret organisation which has existed for thousands of years to guard the secret of the tomb of Good King XXXX, they're the good guys. And you have the bad guys, who are treasure hunters or ruthless property developers, or even corrupt local officials. The conflict between them culminates with the army coming to life, digging itself out of the ground, and making a great martial arts movie!

Dunno what the sequel would be though.
