As the title shows I am not putting forward any new product here. But an aspect of how the shoes that people buy has been bothering me lately.

I bought a new pair of leather shoes the other week. My feet are short and wide so I always feel it is hard to find a pair of shoes that fit me. I nearly always buy a pair that fits a bit too snug and then count on them expand as I use them. Which always happens. Leather will expand with usage, I take that as a fact. But as one keeps on using the damn shoes sometimes they get a bit too big.

Now to my question and solution.  The binding area of the shoe always seems to be designed such that the two sides meet on the first day. This means that as the leather expands, there is no extra space in the binding that would allow me to use the shoe laces to adjust the tightness of the shoe. Therefore the only usage of the lacing is to make it easier for me to get shoe on my foot.

To make it clearer. I would like there to be 10-15 mm of space in lacing on day one so as the leather expands I can tighten the shoe.

Or, is it just my feet and my shoes that behave this way?

Comments please!
