I stole this brilliant idea from sandman over at forumosa. Sound in avatars!

I like the idea of that. As you scrolled through the thread the whinnying would get louder and louder until you reached the post and then gradually fade away. Maybe the noise from neighbouring threads would be slightly audible too. A trip to forumosa would be like a trip to the zoo, only without the smell.

Additionally I want to market a tie in USB device that emits the distinct odor of certain posters to warn you of their presence and prevent you accidentally stumbling on their posts.

It would be inactive but once you entered a thread he had commented it the smell would get stronger.

Web 1.0 - Static HTML pages
Web 2.0 - AJAX
Web 3.0 - Whinnying avatars to tell you what friends and enemies of your are present in a thread.
ZogSense(tm) USB Odor emitters.

ZogSense won't be an end user product, they will be integrated into all mice by OEMs.

End users will be able to pay to not get one.

1. really what we want?
Hmmm, I know we are not supposed to be negative here but I must say I am not fan of this idea. Its kind of like mobile phones on airplanes...just because its possible doesn't mean it should be implemented. Of course if there were simple ways to make it turned off as default...then it could perhaps become the next natural step - when one wants it. But a fair number of people will of course compete to come up with the most foul smelling concoctions the machine can produce. Imagine sitting in the office and suddenly have the computer giving off a foul smelling egg fart...great! NSFW I would say:)
